Meet the Team

Stewart Green
Station Manager/Presenter

Born in Banbury, love radio and watching Banbury United, also been a massive fan of Manchester United since the day i was born.

When i left the local hospital radio station after 33 years, opportunity came for me to run my own online radio station. Enjoying the challenge.

I love a good mix of music, my favourite band is Barclay James Harvest.

Ian Fleming
Assistant Station Manager/Technical Team/Presenter

I started my interest in radio when i was just 4 years old, messing around with a record player and reel to reel tape recorder.

It’s great to entertain the local community and interact with them on local community radio.

Darren Hillman
Head of Technical Team

Over the past 12 years i have always been involved in radio in one way or another, whether it has been behind the scenes or behind the mic.

I joined Puritans Radio because i am passionate about a proper local station for Banbury.

You can usually find me tinkering with all the equipment that makes the station run.

Julie Hieatt
Head of Promotion/Publicity

Born in Banbury and lived here most of my life.

Currently working for Banbury Museum gift shop and enjoying my role for Puritans Radio.

Love music and football, which makes this the best place to volunteer.

Aaron Taylor
Outside Events Co-Ordinator (Trailer)

I was born, raised and have always lived in Banbury and having the opportunity to become involved in such a great community station is just brilliant!

Been a secret folkie for many years now and being able to share the music i love on my special shows, and carrying out my role as the Outside Events Co-Ordinator is just part of why i love being involved.

Away from the station i work as a Funeral Director at Edd Frost & Daughters Family Funeral Directors, i love playing guitar and watching box sets (not at the same time!). I live with my partner and i have a son who despite being 8 shares my taste in folk music! Good lad!

Chris Baxter

Born in Banbury in 1988. I have had a keen interest in music since very early in life. Music knowledge spreading far and wide between the genres and eras.

I have been the entertainer on many of times as i have been the DJ regularly in many of venues around Banbury.

The love of music continues as i show you my talents live on Puritans Radio. Look out for my shows and check out my DJ Baxter Facebook page.

John Butler

Born in Banbury.

Love music, i was introduced to internet radio four years ago.

I currently do a Soul programme on  a Friday night.

Other interests include fishing and watching football.

Pete Emms
Technical Team

I’m a retired Telecommunications Engineer who has lived in Banbury for over 50 years.

Although Puritans Radio is my first venture into the world of broadcasting, i have many years’ experience in the music industry, first as a DJ and then as a lighting engineer, and i still operate a lighting rig serving local bands and festivals.

My other main interests are Motorsport and Football, which i still play regularly all be it the “walking” kind.

Dave England

As one of the sports commentators on Puritans Radio, it’s no surprise that my main interest is Sport.

I enjoy most sports particularly football, cricket, boxing and horse racing. I still play a bit of football and support Aston Villa, and still try to get to see them as often as possible.

Other interests include reading, crosswords and quizzes. Music wise, really love music from the 80’s.

Phil French

My name is Phil French also known as Rory (Banbury United club mascot), Frenchy and the club comedian. I am the stand in for the Puritans football commentary team and have been called upon a few times to do match commentary. The times i have stepped in i have enjoyed working alongside the talented commentary team. My best review is from Ricky Johnson’s son who says i am his best football commentator.

Pete Haynes

I’ve been a fan of comic books, video games and music all my life. So when i had the chance to combine all these interests and present a show about them on Puritans Radio, i jumped at the chance. Being Banbury born and bred, i want to give back to the community and consider myself a proud member of the Puritans family.

Orion Phillips

I’m Orion, been a volunteer for Banbury United since the age of 14. I used to be a presenter on a Sports show for a radio station, but music is my passion, so when Puritans Radio started i jumped at the opportunity! Arctic Monkeys are my favourite band and you can’t beat a bit of Rock.

Gary Sharpe

Alan Shaw

Been DJing since the age of 16 started off with Albert Boote then with Top Sound for more many years, also done the pubs and clubs in town and had many good nights and good times doing all that. Now i still DJ on my own when people want a party or a wedding. I also enjoy doing the radio stuff have been on several online stations and now look forward to my time at Puritans Radio.

Tom St John

I am a member of the Puritans Radio sports team and alongside either Dave England or Paul Norton, i lead the commentary on match days for Banbury United. I am a broadcast journalist graduate having completed a three year course at the University of Sunderland. I hope to one day become a sports broadcaster and i will undoubtably draw on this invaluable experience to achieve that end. I’m thoroughly enjoying my time at Puritans Radio and it has been a genuine privilege to be part of the warm and welcoming family that is Banbury United FC.

Ben Stoker

Hi i’m Ben. I have volunteered as part of the Puritans Radio team for roughly a year now, before which i have been actively involved with another local online radio station. My favourite genre of music is rock with anything ranging from classics such as AC/DC all the way through to modern punk pop bands. I’m currently in my second year of university, studying product design and management.

Peter Jones

Born and brought up just up the road in Warwick , my interest in music started in the early sixties as a lookalike for Freddie Garrity of Freddie and the Dreamers.

Training in photography i specialised in working with many of the bands emerging from the midlands music scene, i worked closely with The Edgar Broughton Band and the Spencer Davis Group, both of whom i am still in touch with today. I worked with Black Sabbath, Duran Duran, Ambrose Slade ( a seven piece band at the time) Dexys Midnight Runners, and many others some who made the big time and others who fell by the wayside. Internationally i photographed Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, and the Beach Boys though my best job was taking pictures of Grace Jones in the Nude (her not him).

My music tastes know no boundaries though as i approach 70 i am not yet old enough for classical music.

These days i am an award winning food and travel writer and photographer and presents two shows on Puritans Radio, “Jones on Food and Travel ” on Mondays and “Jonesy’s Tracks” on Wednesdays.

Matt Dickens

Hi ya, my names Matt and i was born and raised right here in Banbury.

I’m quite new to this radio presenting but i’ve been DJing and mixing dance music for the last 5 years.

DnB and house are my two favourite genres and i love to hear new music from up and coming unsigned/unknown artists.

Tim Allan

Currently i run my own business predominately building websites along with graphic design for print, throw in a bit of photography, media and pr and that keeps me busy 24/7. I was a working DJ in pubs and clubs from 1987 until 2003 as well as out on the road mobile. In the summer of 2003 i was seriously ill and still live with the effects from that illness to this day.

In 2000 i started presenting and announcing at speedway meetings in Poole, followed by Weymouth from 2003 to 2010, Somerset back up in 2009, Isle of Wight 2009 to 2011 and back their again last year (2016) as back up announcer and presenter as well as live commentary for Speedway Portal meeting videos. This summer i’m centre green presenter and interviewer for Plymouth speedway so plenty of time driving around the south coast for me.

I’ve always wanted to find a chance to have my own radio show after making many guest appearances years ago, on local radio as a critic of the weeks’ record releases. I can’t thank Stewart enough for taking the plunge and giving me a Friday night slot for a Rock Show, my first solo chance.

Rock music is my main love musically, I was fortunate enough to present a Sunday night Rock Night in a pub which attracted over 500+ people every Sunday for five years where I only took one night off as I enjoyed the night so much, that was 1994 until 1999.

I have three daughters and a grandson, originally, i was born and bred in Banbury in Horton Hospital and moved to Poole on the South Coast with my parents when I was a 5-year-old. Apart from a short stint in St Austell in Cornwall as a teenager, i’ve lived most my life not more than 15-20 miles from Poole.

A few seasons back I found non-league football by complete accident and watched the Puritans play at AFC Totton, I was hooked from there on in with this level of the sport. I travelled up a couple of times that season but found somewhere closer to home to be able to watch on a weekly basis, that was Bashley.

Banbury will always have a very special place in my heart even if i never have the chance to live in the town again. My grandparents both passed away in 2008 and had lived for most their life in the town, many of those years were in a bungalow in Mewburn Road half way up the hill.

I loved my visits ‘home’ especially when they were alive and now for me i would rather jump in the car and drive a 2 hour plus trip to watch Banbury United rather than a few miles down the road to one of my local teams. There is so much more atmosphere, friendliness and ambition than on the south coast and it’s been a pleasure to assist with live Twitter updates both for the club and the station (I love a challenge and have done both at the same time).
